The might of the law finally comes down hard on repeat offender
By Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross, San Francisco Chronicle
After a decade of repeated arrests and very little jail time, the hammer of the law finally came down on Demetrius Spearman, a homeless junkie, petty thief, legendary car booster and poster child for what's wrong with San Francisco's revolving-door legal system. On Thursday, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Garrett Wong sentenced the 38-year-old Spearman to three years in prison for an auto burglary in the Western Addition last October - the harshest sentence handed down in the city for such a car break-in in recent memory. As we first reported a year ago, Spearman has been arrested for thefts and drug-related crimes no fewer than 50 times since he showed up on San Francisco's radar in 1996. Despite the repeated arrests and convictions, however, Spearman had spent almost no time behind bars.

Political jockeying heats up as wildfires rage
By Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross, San Francisco Chronicle
Nothing like a disaster to bring politicians together - or turn them into punching bags. Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, never one to shy away from the cameras, was told by his advisers to keep his eyes open when he arrived in Southern California for last week's wildfires, and if he saw a shot to take it. And that's just what Garamendi did upon learning that President Bush was winging it out to San Diego to tour the fire damage Thursday.

The Return of the Thought Police
"Hate crime" legislation is an assault on civil liberties
By WENDY KAMINER, Wall Street Journal
I mean no disregard for the sufferings of crime victims when I say we should be wary of laws named after them. However well-intentioned, penal laws that memorialize victims deter reasoned debate about the rights of the accused. They rely on emotional blackmail: Oppose a law named for a murdered child, and you seem to insult her memory and exacerbate her parents' grief. The Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act is no exception to this rule.

South Carolina Primary Shapes Up as a Main Contest for the Republican Field
By MICHAEL LUO, New York Times
In the contest for the Republican presidential nomination, South Carolina, more than perhaps any other early voting state, is shaping up as a pivotal battleground where each of these four candidates believes he has a solid shot of winning. Since 1980, each victor in South Carolina has gone on to become the Republican nominee.

Giuliani loses his big lead in state GOP primary poll
By Julia Prodis Sulek, Contra Costa Times
Rudy Giuliani is losing ground among California Republicans, and growing numbers of GOP voters either can't decide or are paying closer attention to the least-known candidates in the race, according to a Field Poll released Thursday. The former New York mayor held the support of 35 percent of likely Republican voters in August, but his lead has softened to 25 percent, the poll shows. "That's an ominous sign for the front-runner," said Mark DiCamillo of the Field Poll. "There's a larger proportion that are holding their vote in abeyance. It's not that Giuliani has lost it, but he's certainly not in the same position he was two months ago -- in California, anyway." Tightly bunched behind Giuliani for the GOP nomination in California's Feb. 5 primary are former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 13 percent and Arizona Sen. John McCain and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, each drawing 12 percent support.

Border Patrol presence at stadium causes anxiety
Couples, one with three children, after they were accused of looting at Qualcomm Stadium Wednesday
By Leslie Berestein, San Diego Union-Tribune
The apprehension and removal to Mexico of two couples, one with three children, after they were accused of looting at Qualcomm Stadium Wednesday has created unease among some of the Latino evacuees staying there. Officers from the San Diego Police Department at the stadium called for Border Patrol agents Wednesday morning after three families they suspected of looting could not produce identification, department spokeswoman Monica Muñoz said. One family was released after producing proof of being in the country legally, Muñoz said; the other two couples, one of them with children ages 13, 8 and 2, were turned over to immigration authorities. All are extended family.

Key board member says he will not support plans for "In God We Trust" posters
By TARA McLAUGHLIN, Bakersfield Californian
The swing vote on the Kern High School District board said Monday morning he’s not inclined to vote for putting “In God We Trust” posters in every classroom. Trustee Bryan Batey said he could support displaying posters in some, but not all, classrooms. Batey compared the national motto posters as a tool for civic education to the periodic table for scientific education. “I’m not sure how relevant that it would be in an English classroom or a P.E. locker room to have a periodic table there,” Batey said. “Likewise, I believe that the (founding) documents ... have a place in the school. ... But I would see them being more appropriate in civics, history, world history classes ... but I don’t currently see how that’s going to work for me in every single classroom.”

The Muslim letter to the pope
By Mona Charen, Washington Times
With a good deal of fanfare, a group of 138 Muslim clerics from around the globe released a statement to Christian leaders earlier this month calling for peace and understanding between the two religions. But all that skirts the elephant in the room. You can read through this entire letter and never learn there are Muslims all over the world interpreting their faith as a license to slaughter innocent human beings (very much including fellow Muslims). Moreover, the overall thrust of the document suggests world peace is threatened by misunderstanding between Muslims and Christians (rather than problematic interpretations of Islam).

Journey to Jerusalem

The following is one man's perspective on the seriousness of the up-coming peace talks with Israel:

Journey to Jerusalem
09/13/07

I arrived in Tiberias two days ago on 9-11, and am currently staying on a high mountain overlooking the Sea of Galilee, Jordan and the Golan Heights. Tomorrow morning I will be departing for Jerusalem. Within the last 24-hours, the Lord has released some key prophetic insight regarding the upcoming Peace Conference in Israel on November 15. Interestingly, when my plane departs Tel Aviv for the United States on Sept. 18, U.S. Secretary of State Rice’s plane will just be landing in Tel Aviv, where she will be discussing issues surrounding the creation of a Palestinian State prior to November peace talks.
On Rosh Hashanah – which began at sundown September 12, and ended at sundown September 13 – the world witnessed three major earthquakes in Indonesia within a 24-hour period, magnitude 8.4, 7.8 and 7.1. Residents along the seashore watched in horror as the seas retreated after the first great quake, and fled the coast before a 10-foot tsunami crashed against the shorelines. In Israel, I awoke with the vision of a greater quake shaking the United States, with large tsunami lashing against the western shores of Western America. The key to averting this judgment lies directly in prayer, repentance and intercession regarding the focus of U.S. involvement in the upcoming peace talks.
Great cities in Indonesia, America and Israel are now being weighed in the balance, and these three nations are about to experience some major judgments in 5768 if there is not immediate prayer and repentance. Israel is not immune to these judgments, and unless she repents (changes direction) from conceding covenant land given to Abraham, she will soon be engulfed in another great war. Unless America repents from pressuring Israel to concede her covenant land, she will experience a quake much larger than ever recorded in U.S. history, and the spiritual covering which protects America from attack by her enemies will be rent from the nation.
There are many issues and sins which will bring judgment upon a nation, but no sin will bring judgment quicker than cursing the nation of Israel. Although America’s intentions have been good in trying to implement peace, her methods are unbiblical. The borders of Israel – which have been laid by God, cannot be re-written by man. By pressuring Israel to concede her covenant land – reducing the security buffer which protects Israel from enemy attack – America is not blessing Israel, but cursing her. The key to canceling major judgments in America and Israel in 5768 lies not within criticizing or condemning our leaders, but peacefully praying for them and speaking godly counsel and wisdom regarding what the word of God says about the covenant land of Israel. For security reasons alone, America would not even consider giving Rhode Island away to Iranian immigrants for the sake of peace. We need to implement the same common sense with Israel. The history of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount date back thousands of years as the undisputed territory of Abraham, and to try to meddle with the land restored to Israel in 1967 as a fulfillment of biblical prophecy is not wisdom, but suicide, and virtually guarantees calamity upon a nation.
The sun has just set in Tiberias as I write this, and I can see fireworks in the distance as Rosh Hashanah ends, and the New Year 5768 begins. Our prophetic team will continue praying for peace in the Holy Land as we travel up the mountain to Jerusalem tomorrow morning. Rumors of war are echoing across the valley as Israeli warplanes just hit Syrian missile bases across the border from our location. Tonight our host showed us where the bomb shelters are in case Syria retaliates while we are in Tiberias.
Your prayers are certainly appreciated through November while I am traveling across Israel and the United States, interceding for peace and spiritual reformation in cities across these nations. My prayer is that instead of bombs being heard over our cities, explosions of the glory of the Lord would shatter the enemy’s plans for America and Israel, and revival would thunder across the land.
Blessings,

Is There Poison in the Broth?

There's poison in the broth (2 Kings 4:38-41).

When a person "prays" without first connecting with the Father through faith, they are merely mouthing words and making the problem worse.

The spirit of unbelief prevails in many places. God is wanting cleansed vessels, fit for the Master's use. Yet, people are coming to pray without first repenting of their sins. He can't use sinners to do the work of the ministry.

The first step of faith is to be repentance. He's looking for those who are willing to turn from their wicked ways and do things His way instead.

Come to gatherings prayed up and ready to minister to the Lord. Consecrate yourself ahead of time. Confess your sins to God, daily if necessary. Walk in holiness. This will lead to wholeness.

He's looking for His Church to arise in this hour. They need to humble themselves, and then pray. Many have not done this. They're proud of their accomplishments, or their appearance before man, or their belongings.

It is a time of repentance for My people, a time of humbling themselves before an holy God. Those who refuse Me in this hour, I will humble.

October 5, 2007
Note: It's interesting to me that this was given to me two days before my pastor preached on the subject of repentance (not only from sin, but also in how we think).

Islam in America has Unholy Plans

Dallas Holy Land Terror Trial Reveals Islamic Plan To Destroy America

The Muslim Brotherhood in the United States has been enacting a plan since 1991 to unite all Islamic organizations in America into a comprehensive army that intends to eliminate and destroy America's civilization from within through a grand "Civilization Jihadist" movement, according to documents submitted by the federal government as evidence in the Holy Land Foundation terrorist trial in Dallas, Texas. The documents obtained by investigators outline in chilling detail how Islam plans to destroy the United States, and even more alarming, that the plan initiated in May 1991 has already advanced through many of its strategic phases.

The plan says that the Muslim Brotherhood "must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western Civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of believers so that it is eliminated and god's religion [sic Islam] is made victorious over all religions. It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes, and there is no escape from that destiny except for those who chose to slack. But would the slackers and the Mujahedeen be equal."

Make no mistake that this plan is serious and has been implemented. The plan called for "settling" the United States by becoming "entrenched" as part of the "homeland." The plan demands that in order to accomplish this goal, the "movement" must "plan and struggle" to "carry out this grand mission as a 'Civilization Jihadist' responsibility which lies on the shoulders of Muslims and-on top of them-the Muslim Brotherhood in this country." In order to foment this change, 12 "shifts" in mentality were instituted, such as "a shift from the mentality of caution and reservation to the mentality of risk and controlled liberation."

Once these mentality shifts are developing , the plan called for Islamic takeover through the building of mosques, Islamic centers and schools, then unifying all U.S. Islamic movements. Over 29 organizations were listed in the document as part of the unification plan, many of them which already have become household names in America. Jeremiah 51:14 says, "The Lord of hosts has sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill you with men, as with locusts; and they shall lift up a battle cry against you." Americans, it is now time to come to the aid of your country for the sake of your nation, your family, your life and your God.
