South Dakota Christians Seek Prayer

Leslie Unruh, a post-abortive woman and codirector of the group that was able to garner bipartisan legislative support to outlaw abortion in South Dakota was on the James Dobson Focus on the Family radio show today.

They brought the facts of the significant problems with post-abortive mothers as well as significant testimony from post-abortive mothers in their successful effort to outlaw the practice of abortion in South Dakota.

However, Planned Parenthood among others has put this on the ballot in November for a vote by the people and they are funneling millions of dollars and Hollywood stars to do a big media campaign to try to turn back this legislation.

They need our prayers because this battle is not just South Dakota's battle because this could eventually turn back Roe versus Wade if it would go to the Supreme Court. Also, the volunteers who are working to try to persuade the people to support the legislation are being given death threats and they are just working on a very minimal budget, borrowing computers to try to help get out the word. How to Look at Life . . .

Pastor Rick Warren with wife Kay

You may have heard of Rick Warren, the author of "A Purpose Driven Life". Here's a wonderful peek into the way a Godly man thinks when he is blessed and/or in times of trouble.

People ask me, "What is the purpose of life?" And I respond: "In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me. I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal.

God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity. We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort. God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore. Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on. And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems. If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness, which is "My problem, my issues, my pain."

But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her. It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life. Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy. It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72.

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.

Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity? Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, "God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better." God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do. That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.

THINK ABOUT THIS:
Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

Protect your church and your home from government land-grab

THE PROBLEM: In 2005, the United States Supreme Court delivered its 5-4 Kelo decision, which greatly expanded the government’s use of “eminent domain” to take private property.

Ever since this disastrous ruling was handed down, city officials have had new power to condemn church buildings and church property to make way for private commercial development. Church property is especially vulnerable because churches do not pay taxes that boost cities' revenues.

THE SOLUTION: The only way to protect California churches and homes from eminent domain abuse is to pass Proposition 90 on the November 7 ballot. Prop. 90 will amend the California State Constitution to protect property rights once and for all. (And yes, churches CAN support ballot measures, which are completely different from candidates.)

School Reverses Course Allowing Students to Wear Pro-Life Shirts

Livingston, CA—A public school reversed its position over students being allowed to wear pro-life shirts as a result of an administrative complaint filed by PJI attorneys on the pupils’ behalf. Two middle school students were admonished by school officials for wearing pro-life shirts. The shirts stated: (front) Help Cure Abortion (back) Abortion: The leading cause of death in America 1,200,000 every year. One student was pulled out of her classroom by two instructors and told that she is not to wear the shirt to school because it is “inappropriate.” She was then ordered to remove the t-shirt or turn it wrong side out, and cautioned that refusal to do so would result in her being sent home. Her sister, who also wore a pro-life shirt, was told by a teacher that a note was sent from the school office stating that the shirt must be removed. Facing discipline from the school, the pupils complied with the school’s demand.

In a letter from the school’s administration to PJI in response to the administrative complaint, the school stated that it concurred with PJI’s position that the students have a First Amendment right to wear the shirts in question. The letter goes on to state that school staff has been instructed not to take action against pupils wearing these or similar shirts. “We salute this school district’s willingness to quickly resolve this outrageous injustice to these two students,” said Brad Dacus, President of Pacific Justice Institute. “But even more importantly, we salute those students and their families for not allowing this injustice to continue.”
If you have questions about First Amendment rights of public school students, please contact PJI and request our publications on this topic. Also, if you are a student and believe your rights may have been violated, immediately notify the PJI legal department.

Poll question: Please visit our website, www.pacificjustice.org , to respond to our poll question: Should schools be allowed to censor student religious or political speech merely because someone finds it offensive?

Freedom Fades in California - this should Scare YOU!!

Freedom Fades in California -

By Assemblyman Ray Haynes
September 5, 2006

Freedom is a fragile thing. A candlelight in a windstorm, if you will, requiring constant vigilance to preserve. It is never safe, as the old saying goes, as long as the Legislature (or Congress) is in session.

That is because the ruling class, that is, elected officials, bureaucrats, and their allies in the private sector, get money, power and prestige from bigger government, and bigger government is an anathema to freedom. Therefore, those who are in charge of protecting our freedom, (i.e. government officials) have a vested interest in taking it away. Human nature being what it is, everyone, including those in government, act to enhance their money, power and prestige. The less freedom you have, the more power the ruling class has. Backtracking On Stem Cell Study

BACKTRACKING ON STEM CELL STUDY
The biotech company that was headlined last week for human embryos remaining unharmed while treating stem cells did not preserve all the embryos. Normally, embryonic stem cells are extracted when they briefly appear in a 5-day-old embryo, which has about 100 cells. This kills the embryo.

Robert Lanza's team wrote that the that single cells "can be used to establish human embryonic stem-cell lines using an approach that does not interfere with the developmental capacity of the parent embryo." However, apparently, they did not follow this approach.

Supplemental data submitted with the paper revealed that Robert Lanza's team did not fully use the approach-it just extrapolated from less ambitious experiments. Not all stem-cells were preserved.

It is important in these days of shaded truth that we be careful to get all the date before we make decisions. (information: Sacramento BEE 9-1-06)

CALIFORNIA'S MORAL DILEMMA
With California's legislature enacting 40 homosexual bills in the past six years, it is noted that the liberals have an agenda! With flood controls and other matters that mean life and death, this legislature is instead consumed with "social" legislation to appease Gays, lesbians, and other sexual deviants. The Holy Bible is clear about such sins. The only way California will ever be able to reduce such negative activity, is to elect people who stand for decency and traditional morality.

NAE is contemplating organizing core groups around the state to develop election groups who will stand with positive traditional moral standards. We would like to hear from you on this issue.

Please let us know if you would participate in such an effort. We have no money for travel, so please keep that as a prayer watch.

God's best!
