SOS Urgent Hurricane Response - immediate need for a truck and driver

There is an urgent need for a driver and a truck in the San Diego area which can loaded within the next couple of days with donated new shoes from a local manufacturer, with donated office furniture, and other items, and then transported to the Gulf area. We are also seeking a driver. If you can help, please call 619-997-5332 or email reply.

There is much new information on the website at www.4SD.net about needs and opportunities in the Gulf states and opportunities to help the more than 2,000 evacuees now in San Diego. Included at the request of many churches in San Diego County which are seeking a partner church in a hurricane-affected area, there is a rapidly growing list of hundreds of churches in those communities which represent over 50 denominational groups.

More information will be provided in an update later today. Please respond as soon as possible if you have a contact to a truck or driver.

With gratitude,

IS YOUR CITY READY ?

Christians should be at forefront of preparedness and response

(CEN, Sept. 28) PHOENIX, Ariz. – As residents slowly return to the communities hardest hit by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and towns hundreds of miles away and all points in between adjust to the influx of evacuees created by the storms, Christian Emergency Network (CEN) Founder and CEO Mary Marr said these circumstances point to the importance of each community being responsibly prepared for calamities, and for Christians to have individual, church, denominational, and congregational preparedness plans, as well as being primed in all ways to demonstrate calm and effective leadership in times of crisis.

Marr explained, “As churches in large cities in the U.S. responded to recent devastation, many for the first time without prior preparation, it causes each church and each Christian within our own cities to ask some strategic questions made necessary by the realization in the past month that civil authorities may not be fully able to meet the immediate needs of citizens.”

Marr added, “CEN prayerfully collaborated yesterday with Christian, municipal, state, denominational, congregational, church and media leaders to provide resources that are vital to a church and family’s survival. When each church and each individual Christian family is prepared to lead the way by first preparing for their own needs will they be positioned to help assist their community with a caring response that earns them the right to share the Gospel.”

Marr noted basic questions to consider now should a disaster strike your city include:

  1. Do you have personal physical supplies to go to a shelter for 72 hours? To learn more, click here.
  2. Do you know which churches are trained to operate as shelters? To learn more, click here.
  3. Do you know how to prayerfully care for families in your church and city? To learn more, click here.
  4. Do you know how to reach out with the Gospel in your city with spiritual aid? To learn more, click here.
  5. If some city churches and ministries like Christian radio are wiped out in your city, do you know the back up plan? To learn of additional resources, click here

Marr explained, “As CEN partners move forward during the next weeks and months, we will be exploring these key and added questions of preparedness for various agencies, organizations and entities responsible for emergency rescue and response. For comprehensive reviews of these questions, check the website regularly for resources to help you deal with these critical issues.”

Marr reminded Christian city and denominational leaders, including media, that as they themselves respond and choose how to prepare others to respond, they should so do according to the biblical precepts of prayer-care-share, the message and response adopted by CEN. Many national leaders thanked CEN for such timely assistance being provided them in their hour of need. Collaborative conference calls to prepare the greater Christian church city by city, church by church will continue.

Prayer
Said Marr, “With the overwhelming presenting needs, we must constantly humble ourselves before God to ask for discernment in how to respond in prayer include:

  • Pray for the president and other national and local government officials as they seek to learn how to be better prepared in the future.
  • Pray for New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Eddie Compass resigned from his position on Tuesday. Pray for a replacement of God’s choosing.
  • Pray for businesses to be able to open despite damage from the storms and looting.
  • Pray for utility workers as they seek to restore power to cities all across the Gulf Coast, and inland areas affected by the storms.
  • Pray for protection from accident and disease for those who are returning to homes and businesses in affected areas.
  • Pray that as cities are rebuilt, that the church would be there to provide a spiritual foundation for the “new cities” as they rise from the devastation.
  • Pray for continued need for clothes, housing, jobs and other material needs by those trying to resettle in other cities across the country
  • Pray for a cooperative plan for disaster preparedness between churches in your city and civil officials.
  • Pray that your church would take seriously the need to have preparation plans in place.
  • Pray that Christians will take personal responsibility for their own and others preparedness needs for Kingdom expansion.

Care
The work of the Salvation Army in Houston is a sterling example of how to provide care, said Marr. The Salvation Army has opened two shelters in the north Houston area that are currently housing more than 450 Houstonians who were unable to evacuate the city. At the shelters, the temporary residents are provided with cots to sleep on, hot meals and water as well as a sense of security.

CEN Care tip for those sheltering evacuees: consider adopting a “pet evacuee” for those you are sheltering to transition from the loss of their own pet.

Share
Meanwhile, Marr points to the outlook of Convoy of Hope worker Dave Auterson as an example of the long-term view a Christian must have to prepare to properly share the Gospel. Auterson said, “People are starting to ask ‘Where do we begin?’ and ‘How will we ever come back from this?’ I have to admit that I too have thought those things – until tonight when driving back to Baton Rouge; it struck me that the church has ALWAYS faced huge need and daunting tasks. And, because of that, we already know where and how we will do our work.”

President Meetings with Homeland Security Council

Flanked by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, President George W. Bush speaks to members of the Homeland Security Council during a meeting Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, in the Cabinet Room of the White House. White House photo by Eric Draper

President Bush on Monday said, "I just met with my Homeland Security Council to discuss ongoing relief efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. I have made it clear that I believe it's a national security matter for people to review emergency plans. And so, therefore, I've instructed Secretary Chertoff and the folks around this table to work with our local counterparts to make sure that we've got emergency plans in place that will deal with significant disaster." EMERGENCY CALL TO PRAYER: WITCHES ARE MARCHING ON SAN DIEGO TOMORROW!

Sound The Prayer Trumpets!
This Is Not A Drill:
This Is An Emergency Call:
Man Your Battle Stations
Prayer Warriors!
The Witches Are Marching On Central San Diego Tomorrow!
So Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him,
and Ahab went to meet the Prophet Elijah.
When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him,
"Are you he who troubles Israel?"
And Elijah replied,
"I have not troubled Israel,
but you have, and your father's house,
by forsaking the commandments of the Lord
and by following the Baals."
There is an emergency need for prayer and fasting for central San Diego. The pagans and witches of satan are assemblying tomorrow, Saturday, September 17, 2005 in central San Diego for Pagan Pride 2005 (www.sdpaganpride.org/index.htm).
The activities of Pagan Pride are so vile, that this notice could not reveal everything in one writing that they do. Extreme witchcraft, curses, demonic rituals, sacrificial altars and occultism are just some of the highlighted events occurring at Pagan Pride. This is going on in Balboa Park in the same park where thousands of tourists will be as they visit the park and the San Diego Zoo. Hundreds of pagans, witches, warlocks, wiccans, psyhics and black magic practioners are all marching on the park for their demonic festival.
Sadly, several churches in the area are prey to the blackened atmosphere of this open and evil event. This event is in close proximity to the gay community where I stand under the Lord's mantle and I see how this Pagan event is releasing evil into our city.
Let us remember to especially pray for Horizon Park Chapel (www.horizonparkchapel.org), a sister church of Horizon Christian Fellowship, because they are right there in the near vicinity of the Pagan Pride event.
I am sounding the prophet's trumphet for the men and women of God to go to battle for our dear church Horizon Park Chapel and all of our city during this blackened event. Let the battle begin with the devil, but let us run him and his works out of our city.

Proclamation Concerning the American Judiciary

September 9, 2005: It is a season of great change in America. We are experiencing great crises and great opportunities. The death of Supreme Court Justice Rehnquist has presented us with a tremendous opportunity to shift the Court. If Roberts is confirmed, and another good judge is nominated and confirmed after him, the balance on the Court would change. Also, many of us believe President Bush will ultimately appoint a third Justice. This is the season and opportunity we have awaited for many years. We must not miss it.

In light of this opportunity and the power of biblical declarations, several other prayer leaders and I have written the following proclamation. We are asking you to join with thousands of Christians around the nations to daily decree this Proclamation over the courts of America. Please distribute this to all praying Christians that you know.

Special thanks to Sandy Grady, Craig Lotze and especially David Barton of Wallbuilders for their help in preparing this Proclamation.

Update on Inflow to California of Hurricane Evacuees

Prayer Command Post of Chino, CA, wants to update you with the most accurate information as to what the Inland Valley area of San Bernardino County is doing towards the Hurricane Relief Effort. Some of the information that I have provided on previous emails has not been accurate, thus I will refer you to the facts below that were gained from the Training Meeting that occurred last night. Please fwd this on to others who might have received a prior email from me. Thanks.
There are several organizations / ministries that are doing a great work in stepping in to assist in the Relief effort.
1. AMERICAN RED CROSS - INLAND VALLEY CHAPTER
209 East "I" Street
Ontario, CA 91764
(909) 986-6651
At this point in time, the Ontario Convention Center HAS NOT been established as a Red Cross center, although this possibility is still being pursued. All initial efforts are being organized through the Inland Valley American Red Cross (ARC) and they have established a "Welcome Center" that is presently being hosted at the First United Methodist Church (918 N. Euclid), located on the corner of Euclid and "I" Street in Ontario (although this shelter might eventually be changing so check with the Red Cross for current information). The Inland Valley Chapter, along with other Red Cross Chapters in the greater Southland, have begun to welcome and shelter those who have already come into the area from the Gulf Coast Region. Over 100 evacuees have come into the Inland Valley Shelter and several hundred more are expected to arrive over the next several weeks. The Inland Valley Red Cross does need help but the best thing to do is to call the number above and find out exactly where you can assist at any given time (office or Welcome Center will probably need assistance but it is best to call ahead of time). The Inland Valley ARC has set up 5 churches that will serve as base shelters to the evacuees coming in, these are already established and are staffed by people from their church.
If you have extra time and want to volunteer at your local American Red Cross, go to their website at: http://www.redcross.org and put in your zip code, this will then take you to the information about the chapter within your region and you can then contact your local chapter and find out about areas you can serve in.
2. OPERATION HOMECOMING
Loveland Church
16888 Baseline
Fontana, CA 92336
Office (800) 974-9147
Loveland Church in Fontana has stepped into a major role of support through the organization called "Operation Homecoming". Their vision is to help the evacuees that are coming into the Southland (including those coming into the Inland Valley region) to find housing, to provide for their practical needs and to bring the love and comfort of God. They will be used in assisting with long term needs (whereas the Red Cross is involved with immediate needs). Operation Homecoming has many needs: 1)People to provide housing (a process of screening and training will happen for those who are opening up their homes 2) Items/appliances/furniture for these homes 3) New clothing 4) Financial Donations. You can contact Greg and Valerie Johnson (the coordinators of this ministry) at the number above. They also are putting together a website at: www.operationhomecomingusa.org but it is not fully functional at this time. Greg's email is: wisemenlovegod@yahoo.com if you have resources to offer.
3. KIDCARE INTERNATIONAL
Drop Off Center at CBM Systems
1599 Monte Vista Ave.
Claremont, CA
(909) 624-6101
This organization is receiving NEW items of clothing, blankets and non-perishable food items that will be sent to the Gulf Coast Region. Whereas Operation Homecoming (listed above) is mostly receiving items for evacuees coming into the Southland, Kidcare is receiving items to send out. Call their office or visit their website for more information, to understand what their present needs are and to find out what the best time is to drop off supplies.
4. PRAYER
It has been an experience to try and step into trying to communicate (often with partial or inaccurate facts, my deepest apologies) regarding meeting the needs of those affected by this national crisis. If you do not feel led to do anything above, I would ask that you please pray for the following needs:
1) That the love of Christ will be revealed in attitude and action to all those who have been affected by this crisis.
2) For strength, comfort and encouragement to those who have stepped into the crisis to give aid or relief.
3) For strengthening of the Disaster Relief Systems, both nationally and locally, for the many organizations to be led by God in the revising and strengthening of existing structures so that the overall system can be improved upon for the present crisis and those to come.
4) For the glory of God, salvation of men and hope to arise in these seasons of crisis and rebuilding.
Well friends, thank you for all that you have done in trying to communicate the need outward and also in stepping in to meet the need. It is my hope that this communication will assist in providing you with more accurate details of how you can be involved; please contact the organizations above for direct questions. If there are other details that I think might be helpful, I will post them on my web / blog site. You can check this site as desired: www.prayercommandpost.blogspot.com
May the Lord bless you and keep you in His perfect peace as you love and serve Him daily.
Together for His glory,
Lynn Heatley

GETTING WATER FOR DESERT CALIFORNIA

The existing 8000m³/day plant in Eilat already successfully uses Sea Water Reverse Osmosis to produce potable water. Israel plans to double desalinated water production from 200 million m³/year to 400 million m³/year to help safeguard future supply.

Construction began in April 2003 on the South Israel (Ashkelon) Project, a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant which, when completed, will be the largest of its kind in the world. The Israeli Ministries of National Infrastructure and Finance awarded the project to VID, a joint-venture company set up for the purpose, in September 2001 after an extensive tendering process which began in July the previous year. At the end of the 25-year contract, granted on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, the facility will be transferred to the Government of Israel READ MORE

DON'T FORGET MISSISSIPPI / ALABAMA !

The major agencies (FEMA, and others) have not yet begun to work in that area and most of the churches have suffered severe damage. So far, there is almost no where for volunteers to stay, although they desperately need them – I promised her I would begin working on that with San Diego churches and others, and that I would do my best to sent people to her and get them tents and other shelters, 100 tables, etc.. ORANGE COUNTY Residence - Help is Needed for Evacuees

Dear pastors and friends,
I have been in contact with a number of organizations that will link Katrina refugees with those offering homes/rooms. We expect refugees to come to our area soon. Some are already here and working with Red Cross and FEMA. I need people that will volunteer homes, rooms apartments, trailers, etc in the Orange County area. I am looking for a 3-6 month commitment to offer free housing. If people in your congregation are willing, please connect them with me and I will help coordinate this effort. Of course, they can do this on their own or through your church, but I am willing to assist in any way to facilitate this effort.
You can contact me at trishwaltz@aol.com or call 714-264-9520 You can also check katrinavictiminoc.blogspot.com for updated information periodically.
Thank you and if I can assist you in any way please let me know.

After Day of Prayer, Time to Prepare to Share

Christians urged to take join together to share the hope found in Jesus

(CEN, Sept. 7, 2005) – Christian Emergency Network (CEN) CEO Mary Marr is encouraging Christians to join with millions of Christians around the United States to share the hope found in Jesus to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Share
Marr explained, “The most important steps Christians can take at this time is to share the hope found only in Christ through a balanced message of prayer-care-share for the victims of Katrina and those assisting them.”

She noted, “At noon yesterday, Christians all over America, as individuals, in churches and with the assistance of Christian media, joined in a concert of prayer. A critical next step for Christians is to monitor events and stay connected with Christian ministries and media such as CEN, so that will know how to respond appropriately, effectively and in a manner that shares the hope of Jesus.” Click here for more good information.

Orange County target area for possible Hurricane Evacuees

Dear pastors and fellow workers,
I am in the process of trying to coordinate relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Refugees are expected to arrive in cities throughout America.
As the North Orange County National Day of Prayer Task Force Coordinator, I have prayed, and subsequently felt led to put action into my prayers. Therefore, I want to help coordinate help to people in need for the sake of Christ.
I foresee a need for housing, giftcards for Target, Wal-mart, Home Depot or money, jobs and/or job training. I would like to coordinate volunteers/gifts with the hurricane refugees that will be in our area.
I started a blogspot that you can contact for more information (I will update it as I receive more information). You can access it by typing katrinavictimsinoc.blogspot.com
If you have further info or ideas or you can help in some way please let me know. You can reach me at trishwaltz@aol.com or call 714-264-9520 (email preferred).
Sincerely,
Trish Waltz
